PR Building Code Branding
Overview
The Puerto Rico Building Code establishes the standards and regulations that govern the design, construction, maintenance, and safety of buildings throughout Puerto Rico. These codes provide a framework that helps protect public health, safety, and welfare by ensuring that structures meet requirements related to construction, accessibility, fire protection, plumbing, mechanical systems, energy efficiency, and other critical disciplines.
This project focused on developing a comprehensive brand identity system for the new Puerto Rico Building Code. The objective was to create a unified visual framework that would improve recognition, organization, and communication across the entire family of technical codes while reinforcing credibility and consistency.
Challenge
The Building Code is composed of multiple specialized disciplines, including Building, Plumbing, Fire, Pool and Spa, Mechanical, Electrical, Energy Conservation, and Residential codes. Each publication serves a distinct purpose and audience, yet all must be recognized as part of a cohesive system. The challenge was to create a visual identity that could clearly differentiate each code while maintaining a strong connection to the overarching Puerto Rico Building Code brand.
Solution
The project included the development of the master brand identity, logo system, color architecture, typography standards, publication design guidelines, and a scalable visual framework for all code categories. A unique graphic identity was created for each code discipline, allowing professionals, contractors, engineers, architects, and government agencies to quickly identify and navigate the appropriate documentation.
The result was a modern, organized, and highly functional brand system that transformed a complex regulatory framework into a recognizable family of publications, improving usability, consistency, and long-term brand recognition across the Puerto Rico Building Code program.
